As we gathered around and started to sing Happy Birthday, Jaelyn put her hands over her eyes, sort of like an ostrich buries its head. If she couldn't see us, we couldn't see her, I imagine she was thinking. Then she dug in and thoroughly enjoyed her first taste of chocolate frosting on a cupcake.
